EU sanctions on five people in connection with the 2021 elections in Crimea

The European Union (EU) on Monday imposed sanctions on five people involved in Russia’s parliamentary elections in the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in September 2021.

The five sanctioned people are members of the Russian parliament, the State Duma, where they were elected to represent Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as the head and deputy head of the Sevastopol election commission, according to a statement from the European Parliament. Union.

According to Reuters, after today’s decision, the EU has imposed sanctions on the territorial integrity of Ukraine to a total of 193 individuals and 48 entities. The sanctions include freezing the assets of the five people as well as a travel ban barring them from entering the bloc or through the EU.
