EU secures 665,000 doses of bird flu vaccines

The Commission, through the Authority for Preparedness and Response to Emergency Health Situations, signed today, Tuesday 11/6 on behalf of the participating member states, a joint framework contract for the supply of up to 665,000 doses of the updated pro-pandemic vaccine Zoonotic Influenza Seqirus, as well as optionally for another 40 million installments during the contract. Thanks to this convention, participating member states, including Greece and Cyprus, will have access to medical countermeasures to prevent bird flu, the European Commission points out. “While the bird flu threat to the general population remains low, we must protect those at higher risk” Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou says that “while the bird flu threat to the general population remains low, we must to protect people at higher risk, such as workers who have contact with poultry, farm workers or even veterinarians.
