EU to help Ukraine ‘no matter what’ – Message to Hungary to show ‘responsibility’

Ursula von de Leyen made it clear that the European Union will help her Ukraine “whatever happens” after the veto exercised by Hungary for providing assistance to Kiev.

The president of the European Commission said that “until then, we will use the time to ensure that whatever happens we have an operational solution during this session”.

“We are working very hard, of course, to reach an agreement between the 27 member states. But I think it is also necessary to work out potential alternatives in order to have an operational solution in the event that an agreement of the 27 will not be possible,” explained von de Leyen during a press conference at the end of the European summit.

Also, the Emmanuel Macron warned Hungary about its stance, saying that the coming months will be crucial for both Hungary and the European Union.

Macron told reporters at the end of the EU summit in Brussels that in his view, the Hungarian prime minister was treated with respect during talks at the summit, but in return Orbán himself had to respect the EU.

The French president added that he believed Orban should show “responsibility”.
