“EU unity message” was delivered to Putin from Europe and urged to stop undermining it

The head of the European Council Charles Michel called Russian leader Vladimir Putin, conveyed to him a “message of EU unity” and said that the leaders of the European Union “condemn Russia’s illegal, provocative and destructive behavior towards” the bloc, its members and other states. This was reported by the press service of the European Council.

Michel stressed in an interview with Putin that the trend towards cooling of EU-RF relations “can only change if Russia stops subversive behavior.”

He assured the head of the Russian Federation that in this regard the European Union “demonstrates unity and solidarity.”

The European politician stressed that Brussels, as before, supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He reminded the Russian president that Moscow “bears its share” of responsibility for the implementation of the Minsk agreements on the Donbass.

Putin agreed that the agreements “remain the uncontested basis for the settlement” and, according to the Kremlin tradition, declared about the “internal Ukrainian crisis”, “the need to establish a direct dialogue with Donetsk and Lugansk” and “legal registration of the special status of Donbass.”
