Europe is living in the most devastating year of its modern history of forest fires, with official data showing an unprecedented level of disaster. In less than eight months, the fires of 2025 have already surpassed the sad record of 2017, as a result of the climate crisis. According to EFFIS European system data, more than 10 million acres of forest have become ash since the beginning of the year. It is a huge area, larger than the entire Corsica, which far exceeded the previous 9.8 million acre record recorded for the whole year of 2017.
