Europe is burning with heat and fires

His mixture is explosive heatwave and the fires affecting Europe. At Great Britain the temperature may exceed 40 degrees Celsius for the first time in the country, while fires have broken out in the south-west of France.

The fact that more and more heat waves are being recorded is a direct result of the increase in temperature on the planet, according to scientists.

The record high temperature in Britain was set on July 25, 2019, with 38.7 degrees in Cambridge. Already yesterday, in the eastern part of England the thermometer showed 38.1 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature this year, and the third highest ever recorded in the United Kingdom. Wales recorded its own record of 37.1 degrees and in London, the temperature rose to 37.5.

For the first time, the competent authorities of Britain issued a level 4 warning, the highest level corresponding to a state of emergency, warning citizens of the dangers of heat. Some schools will remain closed, while significant problems are expected in transport.

At Dublin yesterday the temperature reached 33 degrees, the highest since 1887.

THE Netherlands yesterday (18/7) had the hottest day since the beginning of the year, with the temperature reaching 35.4 degrees in the southwestern part of the country. Today temperatures can reach 39 degrees in the southern and central parts of the country, approaching the national record (40.7 degrees on July 25, 2019).

In Belgium, the thermometer can today reach up to 40 degrees in some places, according to the National Weather Service (IRM). In some industries where workers are exposed to heat, there have been modifications to working hours.

France and Spain are on fire

In France, after yesterday’s heat records, the temperature is expected to drop today on the Atlantic side and the heatwave is forecast to move to the eastern part of the country, according to the meteorological service.

However, the France continues to be faced with two major fires in the Bordeaux region, which have destroyed 170,000 hectares of forest. In these areas, 16,000 people were forced to leave their homes yesterday, while the temperature exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, raising the number of residents who were evacuated from their homes to 32,000 in six days, reports APE-MPE, citing the AFP.

In Spain there has been stifling heat for over a week, which has caused many fires, destroying large areas of land. Yesterday, almost the whole of the country remained in a state of “high risk” for fire.
