He also said that the EU was coordinating with the international community to “mobilize financial support and expertise so that you are able to face humanitarian challenges and also be able to run the country.”
Michel added: “We know that you and the people of Ukraine are fighting for your motherland, for the future of your children, for your freedoms, but you are also fighting for our principles, common European values, democracy and democratic rights.”
“And that’s why it’s our moral duty to support them as much as we can,” he said.
In a video statement, Zelensky thanked the President of the European Council for his support and for giving Ukraine “the possibility of being equal in the family of the European Union”.
“And in this difficult time – of the bombing and the war – your courageous stand and being present in Odessa in person is not only welcome, but generates a lot of gratitude,” added the Ukrainian leader.
Earlier on Monday (9), Serhiy Bratchuk, spokesman for the military administration of the Odesda region, reported that Russian forces had fired four “Onyx” cruise missiles in the region.
