European elections: The five Commission candidates crossed swords – European defense and the far right dominated

Shortly after 4 p.m., the debate began between the five candidates for the presidency of the Commission, ahead of the 2024 European elections, where the current president Von der Leyen insisted on a proposal by K. Mitsotakis on security. The last telephone battle of the candidates for the presidency of the Commission, the so-called “Eurovision Debate”, ended in the plenary hall of the Parliament in Brussels, which was turned into a television studio, in the presence of 900 people. The debate took place for the first time with the participation of citizens, while a direct connection was made with 8 European capitals, including Athens.
