The head of the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) said Tuesday that he was “very concerned” about the safety of Western aircraft that continue to fly to Russia, even though the country’s airlines no longer have access to spare parts and proper maintenance.
The European Union and the United States have taken steps to restrict the country’s airlines from accessing spare parts for Western aircraft due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
“This is very unsafe,” Patrick Kee, EASA’s chief executive, told reporters on the sidelines of the industry event in Washington, D.C. in the Russian Federation.
