Twenty four candidate astronauts from Greece -22 men and two women- are among the 1,361 (831 men and 530 women) selected to proceed to the second phase of the astronaut selection process European Space Agency. In the first phase, 22,523 candidates had applied for astronauts, of which 281 Greeks (221 men and 60 women).
The next phase will mainly concern psychological tests. 27 candidates with disabilities were also selected to participate in the process. Those who pass the next stage will then undergo medical tests and will be interviewed. The new “class” astronauts of ESA and backups is expected to be announced in the fall of 2022.
So far most of the candidates come from France (404), followed by Germany (194), Britain (166) and Italy (159).
