European Union: Defense ministers to discuss possible military training mission in Ukraine

The defense ministers of its countries European Unions will discuss their options for the formation of a military training mission of the Ukrainian forces at the meeting they will have on the 29-30 in Prague, the head of European diplomacy said today.

“As the European Union, we have to see what else can we do to support Ukraine and increase the cost of the war for Russia” wrote Josep Borel on his blog, on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day and six months since Russian invasion.

“We will discuss this (…) in Prague next week, as well as the issue of visas for Russian citizens and a possible European training mission for the Ukrainian armed forces,” he added.

THE Borel he referred to the idea of this training program on Monday as well, explaining that it will not be implemented in Ukraine but in neighboring countries.

Over the last 20 years the EU has organized more than 30 missions and operations outside its borders with the aim of peacemaking, conflict prevention and strengthening international security. He recently started a training mission in Mozambique.

Borel said Ukrainian soldiers are already being trained in Poland, the Czech Republic, Britain and France – including learning how to operate the weapons those countries are arming Ukraine with to help it fight Russia.

It seems reasonable that a war that is ongoing and looks like it will last requires effort not only in material supply but also in training and organizing the army“, he added.
