European Union recommends supply in stock for 3 days in case of crisis

The European Union has recommended that its citizens will stock up and other essential supplies in sufficient quantities to support them for at least 72 hours in case of crisis.

In new guidelines released on Wednesday (26), the European Commission emphasized the need for Europe to change its mindset to promote a culture of “preparation” and “resilience.”

The 18 -page document warns that Europe is facing a new reality marked by risks and uncertainties, citing the Russian War in Ukraine, growing geopolitical tensions, critical infrastructure sabotage and electronic war as prominent factors.

The initiative seems to serve as a warning to the Member States about the gravity of block security.

A threat from Russia led European leaders to emphasize the need for readiness for a war.

Other points of attention are Trump government criticism of Europe, particularly in contributions to NATO – the Western Military Alliance – and in War in Ukraine, which triggered a race on the continent to reinforce its own military readiness.

The Commission’s European Union strategy states that citizens throughout the continent should adopt practical measures to ensure that they are ready in case of emergency.

This includes having enough essential supplies to last a minimum of three days. “In the case of extreme interruptions, the initial period is the most critical,” he says.

Overall, civilians should be encouraged to promote self -confidence and psychological resilience, add the document.

The Commission also asks for the introduction of “preparation” classes in school curricula, including giving students the skills to combat misinformation and information manipulation.

“New realities require a new level of preparation in Europe,” said the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in a statement.

“Our citizens, our Member States and our companies need the right tools to act both to prevent crises and to react quickly when a disaster happens,” he added.

The orientation of the European Commission on Wednesday comes after some places updated their contingency plans.

In June last year, Germany updated its general defense guideline, giving instructions on what to do if a conflict erupted in Europe.

Revealing the plans at the time, German interior minister Nancy Faeser said they were needed for her country to armed better at Russian aggression.
