European Union: The Czech Republic convenes an emergency meeting to address the energy crisis

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, whose country holds its rotating presidency The European Union this semester, he said today that his country would convene an emergency meeting to deal with it energy crisis linked to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Czech Presidency “will convene an emergency meeting of energy ministers to discuss specific emergency measures to address the energy situationPrime Minister Petr Fiala said in a tweet.

The decision, approved by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, comes as the 27 EU member states try to reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas.

Dwindling supplies and concern about the future have caused energy prices to skyrocket in Europe.

The Czech Minister of Industry and Trade, Jozef Sikelá, said that the European Energy Council should be convened “as soon as possible”.

We are in an energy war with Russia and this is hurting the whole of the EU“, he said according to the Athens News Agency.
