European leaders have agreed to increase pressure on Russia through sanctions after US President Donald Trump, informing them of their connection with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a German government spokesman said.
“The US president and the European partners agreed with the next steps. They agreed to closely coordinate the negotiation process and strive to hold a new technical meeting,” the spokesman said after Trump reported the Europeans.
“All parties reaffirmed their willingness to closely follow Ukraine on the way to a ceasefire. European participants announced that they would increase the pressure on the Russian side through sanctions.”
The conversation lasted almost two hours, according to an American authority. The authority said that Trump will provide a statement soon.
Putin said the conversation with Trump was “frank and substantive,” according to Russian state media Tass.
Earlier today, Trump also maintained a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the Ukrainian presidency.
