Europol chief: Violence on European roads at a level we ‘have never seen before’

The head of Europol, de Bolle, speaking to the Welt, stated that he wants to prevent the distribution of weapons from Ukraine throughout Europe by criminal gangs after the war.

For a long time, he said, the authorities had underestimated the power of organized crime. But that has now changed.

Welt, for its part, notes that in the fight against organized crime, there was a kind of “game changer” two years ago, as researchers were able to decrypt messages from the EnchroChat application, which was used mainly by criminals. Asked about the lessons of this investigation, de Bolle said: “The investigation started in France and the Netherlands. We helped access communications. It gave us a whole new understanding of how organized crime threatens security. “Europe, the rule of law and democracy. And our conclusion is: we underestimated the risk.”
