As reported by the British newspaper Guardian, the investigation found that a Balkan cartel was using logistics hubs in West Africa and the Canary Islands to transport cocaine from South America to European Union countries. When the drugs arrived in Europe, they were trafficked across the Old Continent via distribution centers in Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Italy and Spain.
