Eurostat: Exports of Covid-19 vaccines from the EU at 20.1 billion euros in 2021

In 2021, imports of COVID-19 vaccines from non-EU countries amounted to 7.8 billion euros, while exports outside the EU amounted to 20.1 billion euros, according to Eurostat data released today.

In particular, imports of COVID-19 vaccines into the EU from third countries came mainly from Switzerland (65%) and the United States (29%). Exports of vaccines outside the EU were mainly directed at Japan (21%), the United Kingdom (14%) and South Korea (6%).

The largest exporters (inside and outside the EU) of COVID-19 vaccines among EU Member States were Belgium (61% of the total EU), Germany (21%) and Spain (11%). Germany (30% of the total EU), Spain (21%) and Belgium (14%) were also the largest importers of COVID-19 vaccines among EU Member States in 2021.
