Eurovision 2022: who has “replaced” Blanco in the tests with Mahmood?

If you follow all the Eurovision developments on a daily basis, then you know that the question that held court throughout the day of May 5th was: what happened to Blanco? The singer, in fact, did not participate in the first dress rehearsal in the company of Mahmood on stage, to the point that the misinformed immediately thought of a problem of who knows what kind: misunderstandings between the artists, squeezes of the stage, carelessness for the performance, and who knows what else. None of this. As Carolina Di Domenico also pointed out to a foreign journalist who asked for an account at the time of the questions, Blanco was not present in Turin because he was busy in Florence for one of his stages Blue Celeste Tour.

Since the Eurovision organizational machine does not foresee any hitches, the dress rehearsals were held anyway, and to sing with Mahmood on the notes of Chills – song which, as we know, will represent Italy at the final on May 14th and which was forced to cut the duration to allow it to participate – was another artist: let’s talk about the dancer Gianmarco Capogna, a name that is not new to the Eurovision environment since, already in 2019, he accompanied Mahmood to Israel.

At that time Capogna was, in fact, on stage together with Gianluca Lanzillotta And Giacomo Cacciapaglia to accompany our Mahmood in a dynamic choreography that gave us a precious silver medal, shortening the distance with the victory in 2021 held by the Måneskin. Three years after the last time, here he is, therefore, returning to Eurovision playing the role of “Not BLANCO”, as the official Eurovision Song Contest blog dubbed it ironically. In his career, Gianmarco Capogna has performed on several television occasions, from the Sanremo Festival to Friendspassing through The Voice of Italy And Italia’s got talent.
