Eurovision 2022 will be in Turin

After a ballot that lasted several weeks, Rai decided: Turin will host the 2022 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The capital, which had been nominated last July by the former mayor Chiara Appendino, had the best of fearsome opponents such as Milan, Bologna and Rimini, in pole position until the end (Rome, on the other hand, had been eliminated at the first skimming) . Among the reasons that supported the choice, there is undoubtedly the junction linked to logistics and accessibility: «We have spaces with suitable capacities, in the heart of the city and easily accessible.

As far as hospitality is concerned, our accommodation offer is able to accommodate the thousands of people that the event will be able to attract »said the mayor.

The location will be that of PalaOlimpico, which has all the credentials to be the ideal setting for Eurovision: built in 2005, it boasts a capacity of 15,657 seats which become 12,600 for concerts (the Assago Forum in Milan is smaller). Guaranteed all the requisites requested by the Eurovision organization: the presence of a international airport that is no more than 1 hour and 30 minutes away, a hotel offer of over 2,000 rooms in the areas adjacent to the event and, in fact, ainfrastructure with the following requisites: to be indoors, equipped with air conditioning and well perimeter; have a capacity of 8,000 – 10,000 spectators; be equipped with an area that can accommodate a set-up and all the other requirements necessary to achieve a high-level production with heights of about 18 meters; have a logistical structure around the main area that supports Eurovision production needs such as security infrastructure, a press center for 1,000 journalists, an area for artists’ delegations including dressing rooms, staff facilities and offices , an area for hospitality, services for the public such as toilets and outlets for the sale of food and drinks.

The Eurovision Song Contest is a production that lasts 9 weeks: we must, in fact, count the six weeks of work before the event, the two weeks for the show itself and then a week later for dismantling and clearing. 40 delegations will arrive in Turin from all over Europe and beyond, to which will be added a thousand accredited international journalists who, according to the announcement, will have to allocate in a single press room. The production would cost about 26 million by Rai, which is asked for a free contribution from the host city.
