Eurovision 2023 in Great Britain, Ukraine does not fit: “We are disappointed”

We were convinced that the decision to organize the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in the UK instead of Ukraine as required by the regulation was shared but, apparently, it seems that this is not the case. Two days after the official note from the EBU regarding contacts with the BBC to bring the demonstration to the second ranked country – the United Kingdom, in fact – given the difficulty of the winning country – Ukraine – in organizing it because of the war, the AU: PBC broke the silence by publishing a fiery press release against the European Broadcasting Union, crime having cut her off without appeal from the project. “The EBU denied Ukraine the right to host Eurovision 2023 after evaluating the security situation in June 2022 ”, reads the broadcaster’s website.

“We are disappointed with the decision of the EBU. In the last month, many people in Ukraine have given their all to meet the conditions necessary to keep the ESC in the country. Safety, of course, is our top priority. The UA: PBC team, the government and local authorities have done a thorough and comprehensive job offering several options. It is a shame to read such a terse press release, but in any case we ask our partners the margins for further negotiations ”, added Mykola Chernotytskyi, Head of the Managing Board of UA: PBC. In short, Ukraine says it is ready to host Eurovision for the third time despite the difficulties linked to the war situation which, right now, still seems far from a definitive resolution.

«All the security measures have been prepared and arranged in close collaboration with the national authorities, from the Ministry of Culture and Information to the Ministry of the Interior, as well as with the Ministry of Defense. The working group of UA: PBC proposed, in agreement with local and state authorities, several options for hosting the event in different regions of Ukraine: in Lviv, in Transcarpathia (Zakarpathia, on the border with Hungary and Slovakia) and in Kiev “, added the broadcaster regarding the first preliminary meeting with the EBU in view of the organization of Eurovision 2023. Proposal, evidently, canceled without too much delay and without too much respect for either the country or the Kalush Orchestra. The dispute, for now, focuses on the fact that the EBU took a decision too quickly, rejecting the alternatives proposed by Ukraine a priori.
