Russia, as announced last month, has been excluded from the competition, while Ukraine will participate with the band Kalush in the place of Alina Pash which has withdrawn. They will arrive in the Piedmontese capital 40 delegations, after 31 years of absence from Italy (the city is the third to host the event, after Rome and Naples). The communication came through an official press conference with the deputy director of Rai Uno Claudio Fasulo and the director of international relations for Rai, Simona Martorelli, the two executive producers of the event.

«The themes of peace – explained Fasulo – will be at the center of this edition of Eurovision. We have three presenters who fill us with pride (Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika) which are perfectly complementary and will bring a lot of themselves into the construction of the show. We want to bring important contents to the event, which speak of peace and are adequate for this delicate moment ».

Despite the very serious problems associated with the Russian invasion, Ukraine – added Martorelli – «has so far met all deadlines incredibly. It is also gearing up to make the back-up video of the performance, which is asked of all delegations if problems arise and the delegation or part of the delegation cannot come to Turin ».
