Evan Rachel Wood stated that singer Marilyn Manson abused her during their relationship. Manson and Wood began dating in 2007 and by 2010 they were already engaged, but ended the engagement the following year.
Previously, the actress had spoken about the physical and mental violence she had suffered at the hands of one of her ex-partners. However, in a post shared on his Instagram account, Wood has named Manson as the responsible.
My abuser name is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started contacting me when I was a teenager and horribly abused me for years. I was manipulated and convinced to be submissive. I’m tired of living in fear of what they will say, defamation and scandal. I’m here to expose this dangerous man and the industries that have helped him before he ruins more lives. I join the rest of his victims. I will not be silent.
In solidarity, at least four more women have come out against Manson, detailing the horrific experiences of abuse, rape, mistreatment and manipulation they have endured at the hands of the singer. Among the victims is Ashley Walters, who worked as his personal assistant for years.
Hours after the allegations were made public, Loma Vista, the record label with which Manson had a contract, announced the cancellation of its employment relationship with the singer, so Manson posted his first statement on Instagram.
Obviously, my art and my life have attracted controversy for years, but recent claims to me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been totally consensual and with partners who think like me. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to disfigure the past. That’s the truth.
Rose McGowan, who was engaged to Manson, posted a video giving her unconditional support to Wood, adding that while she did not suffer any violence, it is time to let the truth out.
In 2009, Manson stated in an article for the magazine Spin that she had recurring fantasies in which she mistreated Wood with a hammer. In addition, in May 2018, a complaint was reported against Manson for sex crimes that occurred seven years earlier. However, it was never followed up.
