Even car used by the Pope: PF raises millions in auctions of confiscated vehicles

The Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police of São Paulo raised more than R$ 6 million in a single vehicle auction last month.

Among the seized automobiles are cars used in drug trafficking and even vehicles used by the police themselves, but which are no longer able to be used in service.

“And we have more than 400 vehicles alienated from the common court, resulting from the provision of the Internal Affairs of the Court of Justice. A conversation was held between the Federal Police and the Internal Affairs of the Court of Justice, which granted a provision. And it authorized the sale of 400 vehicles”, said Rodrigo Bartolamei, superintendent of the Federal Police of São Paulo.

Currently, the PF yard in São Paulo has more than 1,500 vehicles.

The auctions, in addition to freeing up space in the yards for more seizures, help to raise money and buy equipment for the corporation.

In an auction held at the end of November 2021, more than R$ 6 million in sales were collected.

Cars with a lot of history in the luggage

Among the various vehicles, two of the auctioned were important cars that transported heads of state, and even participated in the personal security of Pope Benedict XVI on his visit to Brazil.

One of the cars is an armored Mercedes-Benz, which was auctioned off at a price considered low because the cost of maintenance is considered high by the police.

The other vehicle, of the same brand, was bought by a businessman for R$ 21,000.

“Mercedes, I paid 21 thousand, at first to do business. But I end up using the car a little, I leave it to the family, then I end up advertising. For an interesting price, we end up selling it”, said Victor Hugo Felipe, the vehicle’s buyer.

In addition to boosting the economy and putting an end to crowding in the courtyard, up to 40% of the amount collected will be used to equip the police, in addition to financing public policies to combat drug trafficking.
