Even with a ceiling of 17% of ICMS, fuel may not fall; and the Eletrobras impasse

The week starts with oil rising above US$ 120, after the opening of European markets on Monday (6). The price reflects the concern about the supply of the commodity available in the world in the coming months.

With the increase in oil, Brazil is keeping an eye on a possible new adjustment by Petrobras. The price of fuel continues to be on the agenda in the country, while the government tries to pass the bill that establishes a ceiling of 17% on the ICMS rate, with the objective of reducing the values charged at pumps.

Approval of the project would also mean lower revenue for the states. According to a study by the Independent Fiscal Institution, the states failed to collect more than BRL 92 billion in 2020.

And Eletrobras, which faced yet another obstacle in its capitalization process after the Rio de Janeiro Court suspended the General Assembly of Debenture Holders of Furnas, essential for the privatization of the company.
