One of the most affected during the Covid-19 pandemic, the shows and events sector should manage, by the end of this year, to move about R$ 3.5 million and reach the same rates as in 2019.
The data is from the Brazilian Association of Event Promoters (Abrape). Despite the optimism of the category, the association reports the challenge at this stage: restructuring.
“We are experiencing an important moment of recovery in the events sector, which is expected by both us and consumers. This has had a positive impact on the current demand, but it brings challenges”, highlights Doreni Caramori Júnior, president of ABRAPE.
“One of them is delivery. To deliver well, the sector needs to restructure. Companies were closed and there were many layoffs during the pandemic. The challenge now is to replenish these vacancies, which explains the euphoria generated by the growth in demand in the sector, especially with the return of major events”, he adds.
“Our production chain covers 54 other segments of the economy, involving 6.2 million people”, concludes Doreni.
Also according to the Association, the estimate is that the process for new hires will be consolidated by next year.
“This will reflect on the return of investments in, for example, innovation, moving other segments such as startups”, points out Caramori.
The sector’s total revenue is R$ 334.2 billion, or 4.52% of the country’s GDP, according to the latest data released last month by ABRAPE, based on data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
Impacts on Tourism
With attractions such as Rock in Rio, the sector will be primarily responsible for boosting tourism in the country.
A survey by Decolar, at the request of the CNN shows that demand for the city of Rio de Janeiro, which will host the festival, grew by around 94% compared to the same period in 2021.
Travelers from São Paulo, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Goiânia and Fortaleza are the ones who most search for the destination.
The projection is that this semester, the city will receive an average of 1.3 million visitors per month, in the sum of passengers who must disembark at Galeão, Santos Dumont and Novo Rio airports.

In addition to shows, another segment that has gained prominence in tourism are events in the technological area.
The expansion of the city of Rio de Janeiro as the venue for events in the technological area was the focus of the debate at the 4th Rio CVB – Rio de Negócios Meeting, promoted by the Rio Convention & Visitors Bureau (Rio CVB) this Thursday (7th).
“Brazil reached the mark of 21 companies with the status of unicorns. There is a great growth of startups and we need to be involved in this environment. We need to explore our vocations to be a destination that also embraces this segment”, pointed out the executive director of Rio CVB, Roberta Werner.
For the next year, there are already seven national and international technology events scheduled to take place in different parts of Rio de Janeiro.
