More than half of Russian Internet users use the Telegram messenger. This is evidenced by the data of the study “Media consumption in Russia in 2021” by Deloitte, to which the edition “Vedomosti” refers. The survey on which the research is based involved 1,600 Russians from 8 federal districts.
According to the consulting company Deliotte, today about 52% of the entire audience of the Russian Internet use the Telegram messenger. This is about 50 million people, considering that according to Mediascope data for the second quarter of 2021, 98.6 million people over the age of 12 used the Internet at least once a month. For comparison, in June 2020, there were about 30 million Telegram users in Russia, that is, slightly more than a year, the service’s audience increased by 20 million people.
By the way, the same figures were recently announced by the founder of Telegram Pavel Durov. On September 25, speaking in his blog about blocking the Smart Voting Telegram bot, he said that 50 million Russians use his messenger.
It should be noted that this year Telegram has become the second most popular messenger in Russia, behind only WhatsApp, which is actively used by 82% of Russians who took part in the Deliotte survey. The top three of the leaders of the Russian market is closed by the Viber messenger, to which 49% of users in the country remain loyal.
