Specializing in cybersecurity company Eset reported interesting statistics from global telemetry. As it turns out, spyware activity has skyrocketed in the last months of 2021.

To be more precise, from September to December 2021, the number of spy attacks increased by more than 20%. At the same time, according to Eset experts, every tenth attack of illegal prosecution and espionage in the world is aimed at Android users from Russia. Moreover, Russia entered the top 5 countries in the world in terms of the number of spyware threats for Android.
As Eset explained, spyware typically runs in stealth mode without notification and disguises itself as standard utilities. Such applications track location, keep a log of activity on the Internet, track clicks when typing, send screenshots to third-party servers.
Eset threat researcher Lukas Stefanko noted:
Unwanted stalking software is overwhelmingly distributed through clones of legitimate applications downloaded from unofficial stores. However, commercial developers are also gaining popularity in the market by openly offering spyware.”
