Actor Johnny Depp, 61, said he learned several lessons when thrown into the Hollywood “desert”. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor had his career shaken after being accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife, also actress Amber Heard, 38 years old.
The complaint led the star to open a defamation lawsuit against his ex-partner, starting a legal battle that was televised around the world.
Despite the turbulent period and the “cancellation” in the industry, Depp stated that he does not hold any grudges against anyone. “It was a vast desert, and in the end, this vast desert taught me a lot,” he said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.
When asked what he learned from the experience, he responded, “Honestly, I can sit here right now and remember all the negative stuff, how everyone was against me, and, yes, yes, yes, he’s off the map. . An endless thing. I can remember everything. I went through all of this. Some parts weren’t the prettiest moments, others were hilarious. Some were insane.”
“The point is that it simply was, and it simply is. So for me, it happened. I learned, man. Everything we experience, whether it’s winning a scratch card or taking the dog for a walk, you learn something along the way. So, I don’t hold any resentment towards anyone. I don’t have a huge reserve of hate, because hate requires you to care. Why carry this weight?”
In his most difficult moments, the heartthrob found solace in acting, an escape valve while his personal life “crumbled around him”.
Asked if he has a method that helps him focus on work amid “challenges”, he explained: “Ah, yes, of course, it’s my responsibility. But it is also useful in certain cases, especially when everything is falling apart around you.”
Depp added that playing a character helps channel emotions. “It’s weird to be able to escape, not into a character, but it’s nice to be able to inhabit a character, and because everything is in your toolbox… some of those things can be used as available stimulus. Which is great.”
The actor said he was ready to turn the page. “Look, it just happened. That’s it”, he concluded.
