Everything changes in the unemployment benefit

By Dimitris Katsaganis

The government plans to provide unemployment benefits with an employment “clause”. Capital.gr High-ranking officials say that what the government is looking at as a key scenario, among other things, the government – but not yet “locked in” – is the link between unemployment benefits and the provision of employment opportunities.

In fact, according to the same sources, there is a proposal on the table to include even a “cutter” in unemployment benefit for any beneficiary of unemployment benefit who refuses to accept the job proposed by OAED more than three times.

In other words, according to the same scenario, if an unemployed beneficiary of OAED allowance repeatedly refuses the jobs offered by OAED in private sector companies, he will lose the allowance.

On the contrary, according to the existing “regime”, any unemployed person who receives an allowance from OAED is not obliged to get a job, for as long as the subsidy lasts, if a relevant proposal is made by the organization.

This change is being considered for inclusion in a bill prepared by the Ministry of Labor for next month. Its object will be the reform of OAED but also the training framework.

The same sources characterize as ineffective the existing “regime” of subsidizing the unemployed with benefits.

Government sources point out that for several years now, the number of long-term unemployed has been stable, which means that either these unemployed people are not looking for work or are working in an “undeclared work” regime. according to which some according to their statement to OAED, but not in reality, unemployed use this “identity” (ie the one registered in the OAED registers) to receive some other benefits.

The same sources refer to Capital.gr that in addition to linking benefits to the provision of employment opportunities, the link between benefits and training is also on the government’s table.

Specifically, every beneficiary of an allowance from OAED will be obliged, in parallel with his subsidy, to be included in training programs in order to find a job more easily.

According to his information Capital.gr The escalation of unemployment benefit is still being considered. That is, during the first months of unemployment, the allowance should be close to the average salary (eg 800 euros) and then gradually fall by the end of the subsidy period and not be fixed throughout the duration of the subsidy (eg at 400 euros). ).
