Ok, now it’s official: Margot Robbie will play the role of Barbie in the very first live action on the iconic Mattel doll which will be directed by Greta Gerwig, already a candidate for Oscar per Lady Bird e Little Women. Variety has confirmed that the director will write the script with her husband Noah Baumbach, with which he has already collaborated in the past. With this combo of talents, the film promises to be a success.
Margot Robbie recently talked about the pressures of playing #Barbie in the upcoming movie from director Greta Gerwig saying, “It comes with a lot of baggage! And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it.”https://t.co/LLc7necqZy pic.twitter.com/lXrQDWsniQ

Never has a role been more appropriate for the protagonist who, in addition to acting, will produce the film with Lucky Chap Entertainment, the film production company founded together with her husband. In a recent interview with British Vogue, he talked about a project that will surprise us from every point of view: “It will be something completely different from what the public expects,” explained the actress. «We like things that seem a little out of the ordinary and our goal is to overturn expectations. Playing Barbie is a huge responsibility, there is the nostalgia for a character that everyone thinks they know, but in reality it will not be like that ».

Filming is expected to begin in 2022 at i Leavesden Studios of London, so we could see Barbie in the cinema as early as the following year. The plot is still in development, but the story will certainly be geared towards a more adult audience than that of the animated version. We don’t know yet if there will be other celebrities like Ken e Skipper and on social media, fans have already proposed which actors to cast for the part:

What do you think? In my opinion, with that statement, Margot Robbie wants us to understand that her Barbie is not going to be the beautiful blonde woman that everyone considers a little bit crazy, in love with Ken and shopping addicted, but a character capable of breaking down barriers and unhinging stereotypes.
