Ex-Czech Prime Minister accused of misappropriation of European funds acquitted by court

The former prime minister of the Czech Republic is officially innocent Andrei Babis who was accused of abusing European funds.

On Monday (9/1) her court Czech Republic cleared him of fraud charges, bolstering the billionaire businessman’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential election, with forecasts placing him among the front-runners.

The prosecutor had asked for a suspended prison sentence and a fine for Babis on charges of misappropriating 2 million euros in European funds to build an entertainment and conference center near the capital Prague.

Babis, who was not present in court, has denied the charges.
