Colombia’s left-wing presidential candidate Gustavo Petro, a former guerrilla fighter who promises to “democratize” the country’s economy, has nearly twice the voting intentions of his closest opponent, center-right Federico Gutiérrez, and would beat him in a second round.
Petro, who was mayor of Bogotá from 2012 to 2015, came up with 40% support, and Gutiérrez, the former mayor of Colombia’s second-largest city, Medellín, had 21% in a YanHaas poll released late Tuesday. for the May 29 election.
