Ex-President of Argentina became a fan of Ethereum after a conversation with Vitalik Buterin

Former Argentinean President Mauricio Macri, after meeting with Buterin, said that ether is one of the most valuable currencies in the world.

Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri on Twitter
reportedto meet with Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin during an event hosted by The Graph in Buenos Aires to mark the first anniversary of the protocol since its launch on the blockchain. After talking with Buterin, Macri admitted that Ethereum is “one of the most innovative decentralized technologies” of the 21st century.

Mauricio Macri said that most of their communication with Vitalik was devoted to discussing the role of cryptocurrencies and blockchain in international and domestic politics and the benefits of digital assets for the Argentine government.

“An exciting meeting with Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, one of the most innovative decentralized technologies of our century. Its currency, ether, is one of the most valuable in the world. We are discussing the role of cryptography and blockchain capabilities for the state. ”

Vitalik Buterin did not plan to meet with Mauricio Macri. He came to Argentina on a tour of Latin America. According to local media reports, the Ethereum founder traveled incognito to the country on December 17 and made a surprise appearance at a party hosted by The Graph to celebrate the anniversary of the mainnet launch.

Lorren Fabrias from The Graph
noted on Twitter that Vitalik liked the event. She described Buterin as “Crypto’s Lionel Messi” and said that Vitalik’s participation in the party boosted Ethereum’s popularity in Argentina’s crypto community.

“He came to eat pizza and talk about the ecosystem. He looked like Messi – everyone wanted to be photographed with him. I played table tennis, talked. ”

At The Graph party, Buterin highlighted the positive aspects of the Proof-of-Humanity blockchain, designed to identify the recipient of basic income.

The next day, he attended a dinner party where he met Mauricio Macri, MercadoLibre founder Hernan Kazakh, Globant founder Gilbert Englebien and entrepreneur Santiago Siri.

Local media believe that Vitalik Buterin’s visit to Argentina could have been planned as part of the promotion of Ethereum in Latin America. Argentina is one of the 9 countries with the highest cryptocurrency adoption rates. At the same time, the authorities are trying to use cryptocurrency to get out of the economic crisis. Argentina introduced a 0.6% tax on crypto exchanges last month. In the same month, following the province of Cordoba, Tucuman introduced taxation of income from cryptocurrencies. Now in two Argentine provinces, citizens are required to report cryptoassets and pay tax on income from cryptocurrency transactions. In September, the President of the Argentine Central Bank announced that he was wary of cryptocurrencies due to their high volatility.
