By Tasos Dasopoulos

The increase in tax revenues by 1.16 billion euros for May and 2.9 billion euros for the five months of January-May creates the margins for the repetition of the fuel subsidy measure and the adjustment of the subsidy to diesel.

Commenting on the development, the Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Theodoros Skylakakis stressed that “tax revenues amounted to 4,640 million euros, increased by 1,162 million euros or 33.4% against the target, mainly due to the collection of the first installment of ENFIA and better performance in the collection of other taxes “.

Sources of YPOIK stressed that from the excess of 1.16 billion euros of revenues, 800 million euros are revenues from ENFIA and the remaining 360 million euros net excess from other sources of tax revenues. It is estimated that about 690 million euros relate to cases of lump sum payment of the tax. That is why the finalization of the new intervention for fuel will be done as soon as there is a clearer picture of the course of the tax revenues of June.

More specifically, on the basis of provisional budget execution data, tax revenue for the five months of January amounted to EUR 20,680 million, an increase of EUR 2,910 million or 16.4% compared to the target set out in the 2022 Budget Report. This over-execution is due to the extension of the deadline for payment of road tax until the end of February 2022, the better return of the previous year taxes collected in installments until the end of February 2022, the better return on tax collection of the current year, as well as the collection of the first installment of ENFIA which was foreseen to be collected in September.

Revenue recoveries amounted to € 2,180 million, up € 574 million from the target (€ 1,606 million).

The total revenue of the Public Investment Budget (PIP) amounted to 1,106 million euros, reduced by 464 million euros from the target (1,570 million euros).

State budget expenditure for the period January-May 2022 amounted to 26,352 million euros and is reduced by 549 million euros compared to the target (26,901 million euros), which is included in the 2022 budget report.

The increase in revenues combined with the backlog of expenditures formed a primary deficit lower by 2.43 billion to 1.485 million euros, against a target for a primary deficit of 3.913 million euros and a primary deficit of 8.139 million euros for the same period in 2021.

The Fuel Pass 2

A competent source of YPOIK stressed that this time more and more money will be subsidized in the repetition of the measure for the period from July to September for the purchase of fuel. According to competent sources of YPOIK, the income criterion will increase from the current 30,000, but also the subsidy will increase depending on the type of wheelbarrow and the areas in which it moves.

In the meantime, according to the data of YPOIK, 2.3 million euros have already entered the platform for the fuel subsidy. About 80% of the beneficiaries chose to transfer the subsidy ranging from 30 to 55 euros to their bank account and not to an electronic card. Of the total 110m euros at the moment, there is a balance of around 10m euros.
