Exchange Coinsquare revealed the leakage of customer data

A major Canadian crypto exchange said that users’ assets are safe and that the attackers probably did not use personal data.

Coinsquare sent an email to customers on Saturday, Nov. 26, reporting a “data incident” in which “an unauthorized third party gained access to a customer database containing personal information.” The exchange team clarified that the attackers gained access to “customer names, email addresses, residential addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, device IDs, public wallet addresses, transaction histories and account balances”:

“Passwords were not revealed. We have no evidence that an attacker viewed this information.”

Last week, Coinsquare suspended operations on its platform after discovering a vulnerability that sparked speculation about possible liquidity problems given the collapse of the multi-billion dollar crypto exchange FTX in early November. Full service on the Coinsquare site was restored on Friday, November 25th.

“We reiterate that 100% of client funds are held securely in cold storage and are not used for commercial activities,” the exchange said after reopening.

In March, the BlockFi cryptocurrency service announced that the servers of the partner company Hubspot had been hacked and personal data had been leaked. The company said that the assets of users and the systems of the site itself are safe.
