After ending December with net outflows of US$ 13.808 billion, the country registered a positive exchange flow of US$ 4.176 billion in January, according to the preview released this Wednesday (8) by the Central Bank (BC).
With the entry into force of the foreign exchange law, operations of up to US$ 50,000, around 3% of the total traded in the primary exchange market, can be informed to the BC until the 5th of the following month. With that, the final result for January will be announced next week.
In 2022, the balance was negative by US$ 3.233 billion, according to the correction carried out by the BC last week.
According to the January preview, the financial channel showed net inflows of US$ 2.353 billion in the period. This is the result of contributions in the amount of US$ 48.227 billion and withdrawals totaling US$ 45.874 billion. The segment brings together foreign direct and portfolio investments, profit remittances and interest payments, among other operations.
In foreign trade, the preliminary balance for January was positive at US$ 1.823 billion, with imports of US$ 18.977 billion and exports of US$ 20.800 billion. Exports include US$ 2.222 billion in Advances on Exchange Contracts (ACC), US$ 3.673 billion in Prepayments (PA) and US$ 14.904 billion in other inflows.

Considering previous data, in the accumulated result for the year, the total foreign exchange flow is positive at US$ 5.203 billion, with an inflow of US$ 3.138 billion in the financial channel and US$ 2.064 billion in the commercial channel.
Financial contributions amounted to US$ 54.583 billion and withdrawals totaled US$ 51.444 billion. In foreign trade, imports total US$ 21.404 billion and exports US$ 23.468 billion in 2023. In exports, US$ 2.656 billion in ACC, US$ 4.147 billion in PA and US$ 16.665 billion in other entries are included .

Brazil registered a positive exchange flow of US$ 1.004 billion last week, from January 30 to February 3, informed the Central Bank.
The financial channel showed net inflows of US$ 435 million in the period. This is the result of contributions in the amount of US$ 10.291 billion and withdrawals totaling US$ 9.856 billion.
In foreign trade, last week’s balance was positive at US$ 569 million, with imports of US$ 3.884 billion and exports of US$ 4.452 billion. Exports include US$718 million in Advances on Foreign Exchange Contracts, US$642 million in Prepayments and US$3.092 billion in other inflows.
