EXCLUSIVE: Putin will not attend the G20 in Brazil

In response to Daniel Rittner of CNN, Putin stated that he will find “another person in Russia who can represent the interests” of the country at the G20 Summit, which will take place in Brazil.

Putin considered that his presence would hinder the group’s work, given the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant against him for alleged war crimes during the Russian operation in Ukraine.

Brazil is a signatory to the Treaty of Rome and would be obliged to respect the ICC’s decision and arrest the Russian leader the moment he arrived on Brazilian soil.

EXCLUSIVE: Putin says Brazil and China’s peace proposal is balanced

In response to CNN Brasil, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, stated that Brazil and China’s peace proposal for the war in Ukraine shows that the countries are “acting for themselves”.

He highlighted that Russia was not consulted by the Brazilian and Chinese governments, even though the country is “close” to these nations, and that he does not know the exact terms of the document.

“Whether it is good or not is another question, but it is a testimony that Brazil and China are acting on their own, not in the hands of anyone else, including the hands of Russia,” he commented.

Israel War

During the interview, the Russian leader defended a two-state solution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

Putin stated that he spoke with leaders of Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Palestinians, highlighting that it is “impossible to talk about the Palestinian problem only about the economy”

“I know the Israeli leadership says they need to deliver just enough for them to [os palestinos] can survive. The problem goes further. We need to be based on a broader analysis”, he pondered.

The Russian head of state also informed that he invited the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, to participate in the BRICS Summit, which will take place in Kazan next week.

Understanding between Iran and Israel

Vladimir Putin also stated that Russia hopes that the exchange of attacks between Israel and Iran will stop at some point, highlighting that an understanding between the two countries is difficult, but possible.

“We are in contact with Israel, we are in contact with Iran. We have very trusting relationships. And we would very much like this exchange of blows to stop at some point,” said Putin.

He also discussed that it is necessary to find a solution “that can be satisfactory for both sides”.

The Russian leader then considered that “understandings” in this situation are possible, “no matter how difficult it is”.

Brics and alliance with China

During the interview, the Russian president highlighted that the Brics will become bigger by 2027 and that the international market cannot survive without the bloc, “including in technology, such as artificial intelligence. This is the most tangible change.”

“The BRICS are not against anyone. The Brics is not an anti-Western group, it is just a non-Western group”, he added.

Putin also considered that it is important that the bloc’s new members consider the principles on which the BRICS were founded, but which can contribute to the bloc, also bringing interest from allies.

He also highlighted the alliance with China, pointing out that the relationship with the country is “one of the key factors for security in the world”.

US undermining relations with China

Vladimir Putin assessed that the imposition of US trade sanctions against China’s economy threatens relations between Washington and Beijing.

“The US needs to understand that it has ruined its relationship with Russia by continually imposing sanctions. The US is 15 years behind. They will not be able to stop China’s growth. It’s like trying to stop the sun from rising”, he said.
