The São Paulo Civil Police is investigating whether the AK-47 rifle, one of the weapons found this Saturday (9) near São Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos (SP), was used in the attack that resulted in the death of businessman Antônio Vinícius Gritzbach, which is linked to the First Capital Command (PCC).
The 7.62 mm caliber rifle can cause “tissue lacerations”, in addition to having a very large piercing capacity, which can generate “instant death”, due to the shock waves of the projectile, according to an expert interviewed by the CNN .
Shock waves are circles of energy that surround the projectile while it is traveling. These can even lead to death even if the shot is in non-lethal areas of the body.
In addition to the AK-47, which is of Russian origin, 9mm pistols were also found by the Military Police on Saturday afternoon (9), near Guarulhos Airport, where the action took place. Another 556 rifle was also seized.
Developed in the 1950s by the countries of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in Brazil. The 7.62mm caliber is restricted to use by the Armed Forces, due to its high piercing capacity and effectiveness, being “the most suitable for use in military operations in a jungle environment” as shown in a study by the Brazilian Army.
According to the study, the projectile can reach a speed of 1,828 km/h (507.79 m/s) at a base distance of 548 meters.
The execution
According to preliminary information in the case, Gritzbach had just arrived at the airport from a trip with his girlfriend and would be received by his son and a group of four security guards, made up of police officers who protected the businessman.
On the way to the airport, however, one of the cars they used allegedly had mechanical failure. Three of the security guards would then have kept the vehicle. Thus, only one was at the airport at the time of the attack.
One of the lines of investigation, which is still in the preliminary phase, seeks to understand whether the agents had intentionally left the police officer exposed at the airport. The cell phones of the four members of the escort and Gritzbach’s girlfriend were seized by the DHPP, according to information from the Public Security Secretariat.
The military police officers who belonged to the victim’s security team have already given a statement to the Civil Police and also to the PM’s Internal Affairs Office.
They were removed from their operational activities during the investigations and will remain on administrative duty at the request of the Internal Affairs Department. The victim’s girlfriend was also interviewed by investigators. The internal affairs bodies of the Civil and Military Police investigate the actions of the agents.
