US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris faces a significant dilemma in her 2024 election campaign.
According to Thiago de Aragão, CEO of Arko Internacional, it will be difficult for Harris to avoid the issue of the Middle East, which has become one of the thorniest issues in the presidential race.
Aragão highlights that the campaign is narrowing down and the dispute between the candidates promises to be fierce until the end.
“The Middle East, immigration, inflation and, in Trump’s case, his convictions are the issues that will persist until the end,” says the expert.
Kamala Harris’s Challenge
The CEO of Arko International points out that Harris will only have two viable options to address the Middle East issue: “Either she brings something especially technical and detailed to talk about a position of the American government, a policy of the American government for the region from now on, or she has to go to the other end of the analysis, another end of the positioning, very broad, talking about understanding, talking about an environment of peace”.
Aragão points out that any middle ground on the issue could be problematic for Harris’ campaign.
“The environment where she has to address the issue directly, she will leave someone dissatisfied among Democratic voters,” explains the expert.
The Middle East has proven to be a sensitive issue for US presidential candidates, requiring careful balancing of the varying sensibilities of the American electorate. How Kamala Harris approaches the issue could have a significant impact on her 2024 election chances.
