Expert warns Paris: The situation is getting worse, the virus is out of control

Hospitals in the wider area are under enormous pressure Pariswhere the situation with the coronavirus is deteriorating, as the head of the hospitals of Paris Martin Hirs stated today on the radio station RTL.

According to AMPE, he said that there are two options for stopping the pandemic – a local lockdown on weekends, which is already in effect in other parts of the country — or a wider lockdown in the region.

“The virus is out of control. “Today, the same number of patients are being treated in the ICU as they were at the height of the second wave of the pandemic,” Hirs said.

For his part, Remy Salomon, who heads the medical committee of the Paris hospital group AP-HP, said today that imposing a lockdown on weekends in the greater Paris area is not enough.

Speaking to BFM, he said the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, which has been suspended in the country, was just as effective as Pfizer.

According to Hirs, about 1,100 patients are being treated in intensive care units with COVID-19 in the greater Paris area and that number is likely to reach 1,700 by the end of the month if the current trend continues.

Under normal circumstances, the greater Paris area has a capacity of about 1,000 beds in the ICUs of its hospitals, Hirs said.

Until yesterday, a total of 4,239 patients were treated in France in ICU with COVID-19, almost a four-month high.

French Prime Minister Jean-Castex said yesterday that it was time to impose additional restrictions on coronavirus in the greater Paris area.
