This Wednesday (30), the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) authorized the extension of the validity period of the Covid-19 (recombinant) vaccine, manufactured by Fiocruz. The measure was published in the Official Gazette (DOU).
This means that the validity period, which was previously six months, has now been extended to nine months. The decision applies to batches manufactured from this Wednesday.
According to Anvisa, “this new expiration date is applicable to the Covid-19 vaccine (recombinant) manufactured only by Fiocruz, that is, the Covid-19 vaccine (recombinant) manufactured by AstraZeneca remains with a validity period of 6 months. ”.
The request was filed with the Agency on February 11. For the agency, the measure is another reinforcement in the battle against the pandemic.
This was not the first time that Anvisa made such a decision. In August of last year, the regulatory agency also approved the extension of the validity of the Covid-19 (recombinant) vaccine, manufactured by the company Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd (SII), and imported by Fiocruz.
How are the lots that are on the market
For batches already distributed of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Fiocruz and with the expiration date of 6 months printed on the label, an exceptional request must be made by Fiocruz.
This does not change, however, the conservation conditions of the immunizers. According to the agency, doses should be stored under refrigeration (2 to 8°C). Do not freeze. Storage in the package must be external in order to protect from light.
After withdrawal of the first dose, the vial should be administered for a maximum of 6 hours at room temperature up to 30°C. Or, within 48 hours (two days) under refrigeration at 2°C to 8°C.
