Asked about the controversy surrounding the Brazilian government’s plan to allow oil exploration on the country’s equatorial coast, at Foz do Amazonas, Vieira said that this should also be one of the topics to be defined by the summit.
“It is also mentioned in all the documents and it will be discussed that all types of mineral exploration must respect the laws in force in the countries, such as indigenous reserves, and must be carried out with every possible margin of safety, within the international standards of this activity. economically,” he said.
The Amazon Summit will take place starting this week in Belém, bringing together the eight countries that are occupied by the biome to discuss joint protection policies, combating deforestation and economic development in the region.
“The summit will be reflected in a document, the Communiqué of Belém, which will have concrete proposals on health, environment, science and technology and cooperation of political agents to fight transnational crimes”, said the minister.
“There is a very wide range of projects discussed and an agenda will be prepared so that ACTO [Organização do Tratado de Cooperação Amazônica] leave this meeting strengthened and able to implement these themes.”
