A fire broke out in a residential building in Campinas at around 6:41 pm this Saturday (24), when firefighters were called. According to the Civil Police, the apartment belongs to retired Brazilian Army Colonel, Vigílio Parra Dias. There were weapons and ammunition at the scene, which may have been the cause of an explosion in the apartment, which caused an even stronger fire.

In total, 44 people had to evacuate the building, 11 of which were rescued by rappelling. In total, 34 were rescued, none in serious condition, and taken to the Casa de Saúde Hospital and Emergency Care Unit in São José.
According to the São Paulo Civil Defense, the explosion hit the apartment on the first floor of the building on Rua Hércules Florence, in the Botafogo neighborhood, in the city of Campinas. Another four apartments were hit by the impact, the elevator was damaged and the electricity supply was interrupted. In total, the building has seven floors.
The Fire Department incident ended at 11:01 pm. The Special Tactical Actions Group (GATE) was called as intact explosives were found at the scene.
Teams from the Municipal Civil Protection and Defense Coordination (COMPDEC) attended the scene and are awaiting technical analysis from the municipality's Engineer. The Scientific Technical Police were also called. The PM reported that they located a grenade in the apartment, which was taken to be detonated in a suitable location.
