Explosion in Chile would be anarchist revenge against pharmaceutical laboratory

An explosion registered in the capital of Chile on Monday night would have been a revenge perpetrated by an anarchist group against a pharmaceutical laboratory accused of distributing defective birth control pills.

An Anarchist group self -adenominated “Belén Navarrete” said on Tuesday (20) being the author of the attack in the neighborhood of Providencia, in Santiago do Chile, about eleven last night. The explosion caused material damage at the facilities of the Abbott Laboratory, but did not leave injured.

Through a statement, the anarchist group stated that the attack was a “vengeful act” for the distribution of defective contraceptive pills by the laboratory. The accusation of defect in the drug, however, was not confirmed by the authorities.

Baptized by the name of an anarchist militant deceased in August 2024, the group states that the action was promoted in retaliation for what they consider a serious neglect by the laboratory.

Chile’s Minister of Security, Luis Cordeiro, qualified the episode as a possible terrorist act, and said he evaluates those responsible for the acts, which would fit the definition of terrorism by Chilean legislation.
