The Paraná Fire Department continues to search for a missing victim after the explosion in the city of Palotina. On the morning of this Friday (28), the rescue work had already lasted 32 hours.
The missing victim has been identified as Mackenson Murat. According to the corporation, operations to try to locate her were carried out throughout the night.
“The Fire Department teams worked on the second entrance to the tunnel where the victim is probably, however, without success. The work of removing grain from the warehouse continues to be carried out by the cooperative and monitored by the teams”, he said, in a note.
Major Tiago Zajac said on Thursday (27) that the Haitian man is buried under ten tons of corn. Firefighters, however, did not report the amount of grain already removed from the silo.
“The works at the moment are related to the removal of the volume of corn grains from silo 3 to guarantee access to the last victim. The removal of corn is carried out mechanically, slowly and gradually and will not be interrupted until the end of the operation”, said the firefighters in a note. Sniffer dogs assist in the searches.
The government of Paraná confirmed on Thursday afternoon that seven of the eight victims of the explosion had Haitian nationality; one of the victims was Brazilian.

In a statement, the Fire Department reported that “C.Vale complied with safety standards”. Experts from the Paraná Scientific Police have been following the search for the missing worker since early morning, and the Civil Police have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
The silo was being used to store maize near the center of Palotina, in an area with several silos. The explosion would have occurred in a transport tunnel while some employees of the cooperative were maintaining the structure. According to firefighters, the explosion also partially destroyed two other silos.
