The channel in question, which monitors the war, reported that there were at least eight flashes. A reader of the website “Zerkalo” reported that shortly after midnight he heard “five loud bangs”, and the shock wave was felt in the city of Gomel. Another reader who was in the city center reported that he did not notice anything unusual. A Flagstok website reader reported that explosions were heard from 00:25 to 00:32, the shock wave was felt, and twice some “bright flashes” were seen through the thick cloud cover.
The Ministry of Defense of Belarus, in a statement, claimed that the explosions occurred due to ignition during an engine change in a vehicle. “In connection with the calls made to the Ministry of Defense about the flashes that occurred in the Ziabrovka section of the Gomel region, we state that on August 10, at approximately 11:00 p.m., during a control test of a vehicle after an engine change, the vehicle fire. The staff took timely measures to put out the fire. There are no injuries,” the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, the deputy chief of the central operations department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexei Gromov, stated that Belarus has placed the “Ziabrovka” airport under the control of Russian forces. “Ziabrovka airport in Belarus is already under the full control of the Russians. Currently a Russian military base is being established there. In the area of the airport there is a division responsible for the Iskander missiles and a division for the S-400” , Gromoff stated
From August 9 to 25, Russia and Belarus are conducting live-fire exercises of the Air Defense Forces and Air Force. The first phase (August 9-11) takes place on the territory of Belarus, while the second (August 22-25) takes place at the Alusuk test site in the Astrakhan region of Russia.
