Explosions hit a fireworks depot at a shopping center in the Armenian capital of Yerevan on Sunday, killing two people and injuring at least 60 others – 22 of whom have already been discharged, according to Russian news agency TASS, citing the Armenian Ministry of Emergencies.
A video posted on social media showed thick gray smoke rising above a building, followed by an explosion that sent people fleeing the scene.
Firefighters were struggling to contain the blaze as the fireworks continued to detonate, the head of the ministry’s rescue service said, according to TASS.
Many people were also trying to clear the rubble and debris from the building, which had suffered extensive damage, while clouds of dust and smoke hung in the air. Others were helping victims.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fireworks to detonate.
