Exports of clothing-textiles increased by 26.2% in the 10 months on an annual basis

Exports of clothing and textiles of our country amounted to over 1.6 billion euros in the first 10 months of this year, “running” at a positive rate of 26.2% compared to the same period last year, as stated today in its announcement by the Association of Knitting-Ready Companies Of Greek Clothing (SEPEE).

In the whole of 2020, the exports of the sector amounted to 1.27 billion euros, notes SEPEE, emphasizing that the optimism of the representatives of the clothing and textile sector for this year’s figures is widespread.

In particular, according to the data of the association, in the ten months of this year, the industrial production index recorded an increase of 16.9% in clothing and 9.3% in textiles. Garment exports increased by 19.6% and amounted to 780 million euros and in the textile industry, showing a positive change of 13.9%, amounted to 370 million euros.

The exports of the primary sector, ie cotton, played a decisive role in the positive course of the clothing and textile sector. They recorded an increase of 53%, mainly due to the increase in the price of cotton and amounted to 460 million euros.

Imports of clothing and textiles also increased by 10.7% in the first ten months of this year. According to SEPEE, the increase was higher in textile imports by 20%, while clothing imports increased by 7.8%.

Retail sales of clothing in the domestic market increased significantly by 25.8% and amounted to 2 billion euros, for companies that keep bibliographic books.

Specifically for the month of October, according to SEPEE, an increase of exports by 23% was recorded in the clothing / textile chain, with retail sales “running” at a rate of 13.5%.

“From the second quarter of 2021 onwards, there is a significant recovery of the industry and a gradual return to levels approaching pre-pandemic,” the association said in a statement.
