“He admitted that he deliberately directed toward the participants of the demonstration,” said Tilmann.
“I am very cautious about doing hasty judgments, but based on everything we know at the moment, I would venture to talk about a religious motivation for crime,” he added.
Police from the city of Munich reported on Thursday morning that a vehicle ran over a group of people, leaving at least 36 injured second update, with some in serious condition. Suspect of running over was arrested at the scene.
The incident took place about 1.5 kilometers from the Munich Security Conference on Friday (14).
Security has been a clear focus in Germany before a federal election next week and after a series of violent attacks.
