American automaker Ford, heading towards electrification of its lineup, has unveiled its first electric pickup truck. This is the Ford F-150 Lightning, built on the basis of the standard F-150 with an internal combustion engine.
The first Ford-branded electric pickup will go on sale next year. Prices for it in the US start at $ 39,974 for the base model with a range of 230 miles or 370 km. The top version, capable of traveling up to 300 miles or 480 km without recharging, will cost at least $ 50,000. Interestingly, the base model Ford F-150 Lightning is even cheaper than its hybrid F-150 counterpart.

In fact, the Ford F-150 Lightning is the most recognizable electric pickup ever announced to date. It is practically indistinguishable from analogs with internal combustion engines, retaining the four-door Ford “SuperCrew” body with the same spacious interior and various electronic systems. The only exception is the new radiator grille with a bright light strip. Among the chips of the new Ford electric pickup is a pickup load detection system for recalculating the mileage until the next charge. True, this system is only available for an additional fee.
“There are many flavors of soda, but there is only one Coca-Cola, and there will be many electric pickups, but there is only one F-150,” said Ford CEO Jim Farley.
The top-of-the-line electric Ford F-150 with 420 kW (563 hp) can accelerate from 0-60 miles (97 km) in about 4 seconds, making it the fastest F-150 ever. The basic version of the electric pickup has a 318 kW (426 hp) motor. In addition, the new model supports 150 kW fast charging. After 10 minutes of charging, the pickup will be able to drive another 41 to 54 miles (66 to 87 km).
